BIG ISLAND
RETREAT
A Big Island Brutalist inspired home. Designed for a couple in search of an ocean-side retreat, minimal in its approach and curated in its design.

Located on the west side of the Big Island (Moku o Keawe), on the Hawaiian isles, this ground up residence rests upon an elevated oceanside lot, with breathtaking panoramic views from Mauka (mountain) to Makai (ocean). The natural terrain is composed of compacted lava rock in various sizes creating a collage of stone, from large boulders to pebbled ground. The residence celebrates the composition of this landscape in its material selections, form development, and thoughtfully framed views of the surrounding landscape. It is built of the land, with appreciation and with conscious practice.

REIMAGINED
A Hanalei Bay Beach Bungalow renovation tucked away on a lush private lot, with direct views of the adjacent Hihimanu mountain ridge. Subtle references to the 1970s bohemian aesthetic of the original residence were layered into the design with a contemporary sensibility, honoring the home’s history while introducing a fresh perspective. The result is a retreat that reflects island living at its most authentic - inviting, effortless, and deeply rooted in its surroundings.
